City Parking in the Next 10 Years: Smarter, Cleaner, Mobile, & Connected

Monday, September 19, 8:00 - 9:00 AM

The smart city is already here. Now, how much smarter can it get and how does that impact parking? We’ve asked several NPA subject-matter experts to look into their crystal ball and tell us what your city will look like in the next 10 years. This is not a “blue-sky,” “Jetsons-style” look into the future. Instead it’s a hard look at what’s currently under development and where the trends are likely to lead in the next decade.

This session will focus on:

  • Electric vehicles (EVs) and charging stations – how many, what type, and who will pay for them?
  • Autonomous vehicles (AVs) – will they be a near-future reality and if so, in what form?
  • Transportation as a Service (TaaS) – Which sectors will be providing which services and how?
  • Connectivity: The Internet of Things (IoT) – What systems and services are connected? Who owns the data, and can the parking industry profit from it?
  • Sustainability – more mandates or more incentives? Interactive discussion: What is happening in your city? Prepare your thoughts, comments, and observations to share.

Getting to Net Zero: An Airport Case Study in Fleet Management

Monday, September 19, 9:00 - 10:00 AM

Learn how the migration of your shuttle operations to a “Net Zero” emissions fleet using existing tools, and infrastructure can result in significant cost savings for your parking and shuttle business.

NPA Sustainability Innovation Award winner, San Diego Airport Parking (SDAP), presents a case-study on its successful transition to a net-zero shuttle operation. Taking advantage of available subsidies and funding programs, their program began in 2016, and by 2020 their operation was 100% electrified.

SDAP will share:

  • Their choice of vehicles, charging devices, and rationale for each.
  • The funding support that is available and why it made it particularly affordable for a small operation like SDAP to add EVs to its fleet.
  • The downtime and up-time of the maintenance, cost per mile, and preventive maintenance.
  • How to optimize opportunities and reduce your cost-per-mile.

And examine new approaches to customer and client acquisition using social media without third-party fees or competitor locations.

Get a deeper understanding of how new technologies will impact the parking industry and how to capitalize on them to grow your business.
